Nathan Reigner (L) and Conor Hall

Pennsylvania has appointed its first-ever Director of Outdoor Recreation, according to a report from the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable.

Nathan Reigner joins the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) from Penn State University, where he was a professor in the school’s Recreation, Park and Tourism Management Department.

“Even before the pandemic, participation in outdoor activities and interest in public lands were rising dramatically,” said Reigner. “I expect that after we are through the pandemic, participation in outdoor recreation will continue to grow. Recreation activities are diversifying, interests are fueled by technology, and workers who can live anywhere they want are choosing places with abundant outdoor opportunities.”

And in Colorado, Conor Hall was named as the new director of the state’s Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry. Hall joins the office from the Trust for Public Land, where he was the director of conservation strategies, policy, advocacy and government relations for the Intermountain West.

Hall takes over from former director Nathan Fey, who is taking a position as Director of Land and Water Programs with the Mighty Arrow Family Foundation.
