A park ranger shot a man at Torrey Pines State Reserve in Southern California Thursday (Dec. 13), KFMB-TV, San Diego, reported.

The officer-involved shooting off the 12200 block of Torrey Pines Park Road was reported about 2:15 p.m., according to San Diego police.

Rangers found the man in a homeless camp there. They suspected he was the same man seen earlier running naked in the park, but when they tried to question him, they say he came out of his tent and threatened them with a knife. That’s when one of the rangers opened fire.

Medics took the wounded man to a hospital, a dispatcher said. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.

We were told he is expected to survive.
