Garry and Vicki Cole, owners of the Shelby/Mansfield KOA Campground, are creating loyal customers at an early age by hosting the Buckeye Central High School prom at their Shelby, Ohio, park for the third consecutive year. More than 120 students converged at their campground’s banquet center for this year’s annual event.
The Coles built their banquet hall four years ago with the hopes of increasing group reservations on their campground. “Corporate picnics and weddings were our initial audiences at that time,” said Vicki.
However, shortly after construction, one of their high school employees said that the facility would be a perfect venue for their high school prom. The Coles agreed and offered the school discounted facility rates. The prom committee jumped at the chance to hold the dance in a unique and affordable location.
“I love that we have our proms here,” Aubrey Niese, a junior at Buckeye High School and campground employee, told KOA in a press release. “Garry and Vicki are so wonderful to us and are so supportive of our school.”
The Coles, KOA points out, have worked hard to make their location an inviting setting for group gatherings in general. “More than 300 tulips bloom on our property each spring,” said Vicki, adding that the landscaping offers a natural beauty and ambiance that other area venues just can’t match. And on-site catering has been a key factor in expanding banquet-hall business.
