Arizona’s RV resorts are not only a destination of choice for winter snowbirds. They also serve as base camps for baseball spring training enthusiasts from across the country.
“Our properties are very popular for spring training enthusiasts,” said Jennifer Ludovice, a spokeswoman for Chicago-based Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS), which owns and operates 33 RV resorts in Arizona.
Spring training has become so popular that ELS has set up a web page at rvonthego.com/spring-training that identifies 15 different teams, the stadiums where they practice and the ELS RV resorts that are closest to these training venues.
For example, spring training enthusiasts who stay at Paradise RV Resort in Sun City are close to Goodyear Ballpark, where they can watch the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians; as well as Camelback Ranch, where they can watch the Los Angeles Dodgers and Maryvale Baseball Park, where they can see the Milwaukee Brewers.
Spring training enthusiasts will also learn that Mesa Spirit RV Resort in Mesa is close to Sloan Park in Mesa, where they Chicago Cubs hold their spring training.
Snowbirds and other RV travelers who like to play also find impressive baseball/softball fields at ViewPoint RV & Golf Resort and Monte Vista RV Resort.
Other RV resorts that generate business from spring training include Apache Palms RV Park in Tempe and Desert’s Edge, the Purple Park, in Phoenix. “We do get a lot of spring training business,” said Saundra Bryn, managing partner for Desert’s Edge, adding that her occupancies are running ahead of last year’s figures.
ELS’s Arizona RV resorts and Desert’s Edge are affiliated with the Arizona Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, which hosts GoCampingInArizona.com, the travel planning website.
