Two campgrounds in the vicinity of Sturgis, S.D., raised $2,900 for a local charity by collecting discarded aluminum beverage cans and plastic bottles during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this past summer, according to the Black Hills Pioneer, Spearfish, S.D.
The campgrounds that participated were the Glencoe CampResort and The Legendary Buffalo Chip. They teamed with Anheuser-Busch and Eagle Sales of Black Hills Inc. and Ace Steel and Recycling Inc. to place more than 600 recycling bins throughout both facilities. In addition, all campsites received blue recycling bags to collect their discarded recyclables.
The funds benefit the Greater Sturgis Lifecare Foundation, formed in 2004 to support community health care services offered through the Sturgis Regional Hospital and Sturgis Regional Senior Care
Glencoe CampResort is currently over 600 acres, featuring tent camping, RV sites, a full-service convenience store and an amphitheater.
The Legendary Buffalo Chip was started in 1981 and was the world’s first biker campground. It is open year-round, and is best known for its promotion of nine consecutive days of world-class entertainment each August while hosting tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It has facilities for more than 2,000 RVs and also hosts archery and firearms shooting events, remote controlled airplane rallies, weddings and other special events on its 560 acres.
