The April 2022 total of 44,564 retail registrations represents a 30.9% decrease compared to the 64,502 units recorded in April 2021, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based provider of retail and consumer data for the RV industry.

Year-to-date, there have been 152,883 retail registrations through April of this year, a 21.7% drop versus the 195,283 for the same period last year. Still, it should be noted that the year-to-date total for 2022 is the industry’s second best ever for that time period.

For the second month in a row, the Class B segment was the only one to show a year-over-year increase for both the month and year-to-date.

Also worth noting is Canada continues to be challenged with inventory shortages, in part due to requirements that restrict unvaccinated people from crossing the border.

The following is the per-segment data for April 2022 as compared to April 2021, along with market share leaders, as reported by SSI:

United States

  • Travel Trailers – 26,989 units (vs. 39,522 units; -31.7%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries Inc. (41.6%), Forest River Inc. (37.5.1%), Grand Design RV Co. (7.3%).
  • Fifth-Wheels – 6,817 units (vs. 10,186 units; -33.1%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (43.9%), Forest River (29.5%), Grand Design (17.3%).
  • Camping Trailer – 679 units (vs. 1,019 units; -33.4%). Market share leaders: Forest River (58.6%), Aliner (16.5%), SylvanSport LLC (7.4%).
  • Park Model RV – 179 units (vs. 240 units; -25.4%). Market share leaders: Skyline Champion (27.9%), Kropf Mfg. Co. Inc. (23.5%), Cavco Industries (19%).
  • Class A – 966 units (vs. 1,494 units; -35.3%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (50.8%), Forest River (22%), Newmar Corp. (12.8%).
  • Class C – 1,910 units (vs. 2,765 units; -30.9%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (46.1%), Forest River (26%), Winnebago Motorized (15.9%).
  • Class B – 1,246 units (vs. 926 units; +34.6%). Market share leaders: Winnebago Motorized (39.9%), THOR Industries (36.1%), REV Recreation Group (6.6%).

Canada

  • Travel Trailer – 4,407 units (vs. 6,556 units; -32.8%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (41.7%), Forest River (34.9%), Grand Design (9.2%).
  • Fifth-Wheel – 759 units (vs. 1,075 units; -29.4%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (41.9%), Forest River (26.7%), Grand Design (22.5%).
  • Camping Trailer – 113 units (vs. 149 units; -24.2%). Market share leaders: Forest River (85%), Aliner (6.2%), Sylvan Sport (5.3%).
  • Park Model – 6 units (vs. 5 units; +20%). Market share leaders: Woodland Park (50%), Statton Rock (33.2%), Cavco (16.7%).
  • Class A – 68 units (vs. 92 units; -26.1%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (69.1%), Newmar (14.7%), Forest River and REV Recreation Group (both at 7.4%).
  • Class C – 208 units (vs. 226 units; -8%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (65.4%), Forest River (17.8%), Winnebago Motorized (8.7%).
  • Class B – 60 units (vs. 93 units; -35.5%). Market share leaders: THOR Industries (51.7%), Pleasure Way Industries (23.3%), Winnebago Motorized (18.3%).
