Cabins at the Mill Creek Ranch Resort in Canton, Texas
With camping being the safest travel activity, now is the time to make reservations for Labor Day weekend, according to the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO).
“Campgrounds are really busy this summer, which means reservations are essential, particularly on a holiday weekend like Labor Day,” said Brian Schaeffer, executive director and CEO of TACO, which hosts TexasCampgrounds.com, the travel planning website.
TACO has more than 400 affiliated campgrounds and RV parks and resorts across the Lone Star State. Here’s a sampling of parks that could be great destinations over Labor Day weekend:
— Mill Creek Ranch Resort in Canton: This park, which often serves as a venue for weddings and other special events, features RV sites with 40-foot concrete pads, as well as park model cottage rentals and lodges. Amenities include six stocked catch-and-release fishing ponds, paddleboat rentals, a 9 hole disc golf course, a fenced dog park, horseshoe, volleyball and basketball courts, an infinity pool and hot tub and a children’s treehouse. https://millcreekranchresort.com
— Port Lavaca/Matagorda Bay Kampground of America (KOA) in Port Lavaca: This campground offers waterfront campsites, patio sites, a beach, a hot tub, and sauna, a dog park, kayak rentals, fishing opportunities, as well as shuffleboard and pickleball courts. Rental accommodations are also available, including deluxe cabins and a travel trailer. https://koa.com/campgrounds/port-lavaca/
— Stone Creek RV Park in Schertz: This park is a great base camp for excursions to major attractions in New Braunfels, such as Schlitterbahn’s Waterpark, Rockin’ R River Rides and Texas Tubes, and San Antonio, which is home to The Alamo, The River Walk, the San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium and many other attractions. Onsite amenities include a hot tub; family and adult swimming pools; two large off-leash dog parks with dog agility equipment; and two large recreation halls. In addition to being supported by campgrounds and RV parks across Texas, TexasCampgrounds.com is also supported by Houston-based Channelview Supply Co., which has provided RV parts and repair services for Texas RV enthusiasts for more than 30 years.
Schaeffer also noted that companies like Malakoff-based Platinum Cottages are also supplying Texas campgrounds with fully furnished park model style cabins and cottages with separate bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms. You’ll find these rental accommodations at numerous campgrounds, including Hill Country Cottage and RV Resort in New Braunfels (www.hillcountryrvresortnb.com); La Hacienda RV Resort and Cottages in Austin (www.lahaciendarvpark.com); and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Kerrville (https://jellystoneguadalupe.com).
