For less than the price of a hotel room, a family of up to six can experience the great outdoors through the Texas Outdoor Family Program. It offers overnight outings to various state parks throughout the state and supplies the tent, stove, a lantern, cooking pots, silverware, an air mattress for adults and ground mats for the kids, according to the Ultimate Woodlands blog.

Participants bring sleeping bags and meals and other ancillary equipment.

For just $55, participants also get lessons in outdoor activities offered at the park, which could include kayaking, geocaching, fishing and hiking. The next venue in the region will be Brazos Bend State Park on April 10-11 and Galveston Island State Park on April 24-25. Visit www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/bof for more information.
