Leisure Resort in Fentress, Texas, announced that it plans to host a pet- adoption event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14 in an effort to find permanent homes for pets who have been rescued in the greater San Marcos area.
“We’ve invited the San Marcos Animal Shelter to come to Leisure Resort with their adoptable animals with the hope we can raise awareness and get these animals into their forever homes,” said Patricia Lopatowski, director of social media and marketing for Leisure Resort, in the written announcement.
“Adoptions will take place on site and will be managed by the shelter, with all proceeds going directly to them,” she said.
The special pet-adoption event is needed because there are increasing numbers of stray and lost pets in Hays County as a result of the recent floods, according to Erin McCann, supervisor of the San Marcos Animal Shelter.
Leisure Resort will host a small vendor show during the pet adoption event. “All vendors will be selling handmade pet-related products,” Lopatowski said. “Our hope is that we can supply the adopting families with everything they need for their new furry family member. We will also have a DJ, a raffle, and also a photographer on site. The photographer will memorialize the event and offer pictures of the families and their new pet. Half of the proceeds from that photo will go directly to the shelter. We hope that this will be a successful event for the shelter and that the animals go to good homes.”
Leisure Resort is a 117-site campground with 22 cabins, five of which have full kitchens. The park also has elevated 12-foot-by-12-foot “tree houses,” which feature bunkbeds, mini-refrigerators and barbecues. It also has a clubhouse as well as a pavilion for hosting weddings, family reunions, birthday parties and other special events.
The park is east of the Texas Hill Country and is roughly 40 miles from Austin and 60 miles from San Antonio.
“We are a destination park,” Lopatowski said. “People come to go river tubing and rafting on the San Marcos River.”
Leisure Resort also has numerous onsite amenities, including a pet park, fishing, a nature trail, playgrounds, pool, sand volleyball court, basketball court and a shuttle service for river tubing enthusiasts.
