Thousand Trails is promoting several programs to help its members cope with rising fuel prices.
“Before you rush to the conclusion that you can’t afford to use your RV this summer,” writes Joe McAdams, president of Equity LifeStyle Properties Inc., in the June issue of Trailblazer magazine, “remember that because you are a member, Thousand Trails is like your own prepaid vacation getaway.”
McAdams recommended that Thousand Trails members first pick a preserve close to home. Second, they should consider some of these Thousand Trails programs:

  • Extended Stay. “Over the last two years, we have expanded the extended stay opportunities at dozens of our preserves,” McAdams said. “These programs are for members who want to stay longer than the typical two consecutive weeks, without the hassle of driving the RV back and forth each time. Just recently, we added 20 new extended stay sites at four popular East Coast resorts: Hershey in Lebanon, Pa.; Moody Beach in Moody, Maine;, Rondout Valley near Accord, N.Y.; and Sea Pines, Swainton, N.J. At each of these sites, members can keep their RV on site and camp at the preserve for six months out of the year.
  • On-site storage. This program allows campers to keep their RV at a designated campsite, usually for one to six months.
  • Dry storage. With dry storage, members’ RVs can be stored in the preserve’s maintenance yard and then placed on a site during their stay.
The fees and availability of these programs vary per site.

  • RV-free vacationing. “If you’re ready to leave the RV at home altogether, we have options for that too. We have a variety of rental accommodations such as yurts, park models and cabins, and don’t forget there’s good old-fashioned tent camping,” he said.
Thousand Trails also offers Getaway memberships which gives access to top-of-the-line rental accommodations. Plus, the firm offers seasonal vacation cottages available for purchase at Lake Conroe’s Hidden Cove, The Palms at Orlando and The Hideaway at Lake and Shore, Ocean View, N.J.
Some of these privately owned vacation cottages are available to rent. Thousand Trails added a new link on its website, www.thousandtrails.com, where members can check on availability and rates.
Thousand Trails offers premium outdoor destinations to more than 130,000 member families at over 80 preserves in 22 states and British Columbia, Canada.
