Retail sales of towable RVs climbed 8.2% in January from a year ago, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Results by category showed:

• Sales for the high-volume travel trailer sector grew 9.5% for the month.

• Fifth-wheel registrations were up 8.9% in January.

• Folding camping trailer sales declined 22.1% for the month.

• Recreational park trailer sales fell 5.9% in January.

Forest River Inc. was the towable sales leader in January with a 36.6% market share, edging out Thor Industries Inc. which captured a 34.3% share. Jayco Inc. was No. 3 with an 11.4% share.

By segment, Forest River was No. 1 in travel trailer sales for the month with a 38.6% market share, ahead of Thor (30.2%) and Jayco (12.5%). Thor was No. 1 in fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 47.8% market share, followed by Forest River (31.1%), Jayco (8.4%) and Grand Design RV Co. (7.3%).

Forest River was the folding camping trailer sales leader in January with a 56.4% market share while Jayco (20.4%) held the No. 2 position followed by Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (8.9%). In the park model segment, Skyline Corp. was No. 1 with a 15.6% share, followed by Fleetwood Homes Inc. and Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc., each with a 9.4% share. Cavco Industries Inc. and Dutch Park Homes Inc. were tied for the No. 3 position with a 7.3% share.
