Officials inaugurated a new championship mini-golf course at Small Country Campground in Louisa, Va., this week, according to a written announcement from the campground.

Louisa County supervisors and the chamber of commerce will perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the course the week it opens, June 13. Jack Manzari, chair of the chamber, declared the campground’s course to be “one of the top in the nation” and certain to attract professional mini-golf tournaments. What’s more, the course is 100% handicap accessible under ADA guidelines.

The 18-hole course is based on an old farm theme complete with farm implements of yore brought back to life with bright colors, along with a water wheel, waterfall, fountains, windmill, and lots of country touches.

Small Country Campground celebrated its 38th anniversary May 14. Designed and built by its owner, William Small, with professional consultation by Robert Horwath, the mini golf course — like the campground — reflects American history with sprinklings of farm equipment at the entrance and throughout the park.

The pavilion, which is open for weddings, family reunions and other events, is decorated with old hand tools.

The campground now boasts more than 200 sites and a dozen rental cabins and upscale trailers. The 25-acre Lake Ruth Ann has giant toys off the sandy beach including a 16-by-16-foot trampoline and a Rock-It, plus boat rentals and fishing pier. On land is a 36-by-65-foot giant Bouncing Pillow.

Public play on the new mini-golf course will begin Friday, June 13, at $8 a person; kids under 5 are only $3 and get to keep their special golf club. The rest of the campground facilities are also open to the public each day for $10 per person; kids under 6 are $5. That includes the pool, lake and lake toys, and bouncing pillow.

Small Country sponsors a wide range of public events including Que & Cruz, a barbeque competition, car show and festival (July 19) and the TristenFest Music Festival (Labor Day weekend) which raises money for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
