Rockahock Campground in Lanexa, Va., announced that it is firing its 4th Annual Pickin’ and Pullin’ BBQ Competition April 28 and 29.

Festivities include live entertainment and a silent auction. Children will be able to have fun in an inflatable bounce park, an obstacle course and a 30-foot slide. Guests will be able to taste test competitors’ entries and vote for the People’s Choice Award winner.

The first competition in 2014 hosted 41 teams; this year features more than 86 pro and amateur teams from Virginia and surrounding states.

“The Pickin’ N Pullin’ BBQ Competition is becoming one of Rockahock Campground’s biggest events of the year,” Rockahock Vice Presdient Jon Caldwell said in an announcement. “Barbecue has become very popular in America in recent years and campgrounds make one of the best locations to host the competitions.”

Proceeds will benefit Proclaiming Grace Outreach, a non-profit group whose mission is offering food, clothing and home repairs to those in need.

“Rockahock Campground has been extremely fortunate to partner with Proclaiming Grace Outreach in this event,” Caldwell said.

For participants, the event serves as a qualifier for two broader competitions: the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitationals and the American Royal World Series of Barbeque.

Caldwell said people can expect “a day full of family friendly activities.”

There will also be vendors selling everything from jewelry to barbecue accessories. There’s also a silent auction to benefit Proclaiming Grace Outreach.
