Lloyd Delgado has dedicated most of his life to serving his country. He spent 12 years with the U.S. Marine Corps, another nine in the U.S. Army, and then six years as a police officer. But during his last tour of duty in Iraq, he realized he, too, wanted a chance to experience the freedom he had worked so diligently to preserve, according to a press release.
“While sitting in Iraq, knowing retirement was coming soon, I wanted to be able to have a piece of the American dream I was over there defending,” he said.
Camping had been his family’s pasttime, so when he discovered an RV park for sale in Colorado, he knew it would be the perfect opportunity to make his entrepreneurial dreams a reality. He gave the police department his two-week notice and moved forward with purchasing High Country RV Park in Naturita.
Delgado has since dedicated High Country RV to all the military heroes who have protected our freedom and defended the nation. “Our motto is ‘You served; now let us serve you,'” he said. “Veterans and first responders need somewhere to unwind, and our desire is for them to do just that.” The park is nestled in southwest Colorado. The surrounding area offers hunting, hiking and ATV trails, plenty of wildlife and the San Miguel River for campers to enjoy.
“My favorite hobby was camping, now I get to live it,” Delgado explained. “I love hearing nature’s sound when there’s no man-made noise.”
High Country RV Park, which has 37 full-hookup sites, will host a grand opening celebration later this summer. To learn more, visit sites.google.com/site/highcountryrvpark, call 970-865-2101 or e-mail [email protected]
