A Phoenix, Ariz., company is interested in building a campground area with cabins and RV sites on 90 acres of Vicksburg, Miss.-owned property behind the Sports Force Parks, according to The Vicksburg Post.

The Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday (July 15) approved an agreement with Vista Recreation, a private company that partners with various public agencies at the federal, state and local levels to operate campgrounds and recreation areas under long-term concession agreements.

The company operates 700 campgrounds in 16 states.

Vista Recreation is willing to invest $3 million into developing the campground. The city will provide utilities and an access road to the campground.

Once the final agreement is reached, the property will revert to the city after 20 years.
