Lori Severson, WACO executive director, said this year’s jam-packed educational content is heavy on marketing and communications guidance. “We’re hitting social media pretty hard this year,” she said, specifically citing a “Make Your Smartphone Smarter” session during which helpers will install social media applications on attendees’ smartphones and show them how to use the apps to update and manage those channels. “So many of our campground owners don’t really know how to do that yet, believe it or not, so I think that’s going to work out really well.”
Severson said the trade show, which starts on Friday after the last seminars close, also promises to be awesome. “We’ve got some really cool new stuff, including several products from the show ‘Shark Tank.’”
Program participants include National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (ARVC) President Paul Bambei and Director of State Relations and Program Advocacy Jeff Sims, U.S. Access Board representative Bill Botten, Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and other Wisconsin state officials.
WACO takes its business seriously, but it has also worked hard to create a convention environment that peppers practicality with playfulness. This year’s Candyland-themed show includes booth purchase-prompting games, semi-celebrity appearances and nightly entertainment, with a secret something special in store for Friday night’s “Dinner and Thespians” event, which features a handful of Green Bay Packers alumni.
“I think it’s going to be hilarious,” Severson enthused, though she was tight-lipped on specifics. “There’s going to be a big surprise.”
