In another blow for public use of Kankakee River State Park in Illinois, the well in the Chippewa Campground has dried up, and the campground will be closed Sept. 21, about a month early, park superintendent Kathy Pangle confirmed on Thursday (Aug. 27).
“We have people who have reservations so we tried to honor as many as we can,” she said.
As reported by the Kankakee Daily Journal, the 98-site campground “has been full since Bears Camp,” she said. The football camp at Olivet Nazarene University closed on Aug. 16.
“We’ve been bringing water in,” she said. “I’m not exactly sure of the cost, but it is costly. That’s why we’re not going to continue to do it. … Actually, the people we’re getting it from are being very patient because they have to wait to get paid. We don’t have a budget, so there’s no spending.”
