Five organizations will be contacted requesting each to appoint a representative to a subcommittee of Sawyer County (Wis.) Zoning Committee to discuss defining park model RVs for amending the county’s ordinance, the Sawyer County Record reported.

Dale Olson, Sawyer County zoning administrator, submitted suggestions to the zoning committee at its Feb. 20 meeting. They include Hayward Lakes Visitor & Convention Bureau, Sawyer County Lakes Forum, Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, the Sawyer County Towns Association and the Sawyer County Economic Development and U.W.-Extension Committee.

In a public  meeting Feb. 12, Olson proposed creating a definition for park model homes or park model recreational vehicles (PMRVs) for the purpose of regulating the recreational vehicles, which appear like a seasonal cabin but are not taxed as cabins because they are RVs.

The Feb. 12 meeting drew concern from the county’s resort/tourism industry because in two of Olson’s proposed definitions PMRVs would only be allowed in a mobile-home park and not campgrounds.

PMRVs have been growing in popularity. Tourism interests see them as an asset for the economy, but others have raised concerns because they give the appearance of permanence and full-time residency versus seasonal use.
