Two people who visited Yellowstone National Park (YNP) on Sept. 28 were recognized in mid January for reporting a case of apparent child abuse and neglect involving six children to park rangers, according to the Oil City News.
Frank and Terry Dinovi visited Yellowstone after spending the summer as volunteer campground hosts at Glacier National Park, according to the YNP release.
“While staying in the Mammoth Campground, they were witness to apparent child abuse and neglect,” the release adds. “Terry, a retired registered nurse, is trained to identify child abusers and abuse. They reported their observations to the nearest park rangers.”
Yellowstone law enforcement worked with other agencies to investigate the case.
“The adults and children had traveled and stayed in campgrounds from Alaska to Arizona where the adults were ultimately apprehended and charged with felony child abuse, child endangerment, aggravated assault, and kidnapping,” the release states. “The six children were removed from the custody of the serial abusers who critically endangered the children. We take comfort that these children are now safe because of the Dinovis’ actions.”
The two were presented with the Yellowstone Superintendent’s Commendation on Jan. 13 for their actions in reporting the case.
