Construction is nearly complete at one of Northern Michigan’s most popular state parks, allowing fall campers some prime color season spots, according to MLive.com.
Keith J Charters Traverse City State Park has been closed since July 2025 as it undergoes an $8.5 million overhaul. The modern campground is planned to fully reopen in April 2027.
The redesigned park entrance, a new at-grade pedestrian crossing, a new campground contact station, a relocated park headquarters building and an expanded sanitation station are nearly complete, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
With so much crossed off the construction checklist, the DNR is opening fall camping reservations at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
There will be 151 campsites open to reserve from Oct. 8 through Nov 8. Reservations can be made at midnrreservations.com.
