One of the oldest campgrounds in Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) is set to undergo a major expansion, pending the approval of the municipality’s council, according to The Guardian.
A public meeting is scheduled for today (May 14) at the Cavendish Visitor Information Centre to look at an application for the expansion of the Jellystone Park Yogi Bear’s Camp and Resorts.
Matthew Jelley, president of Greenfield Outdoor Hospitality Inc., which owns the Jellystone Park property, said it has maximized the existing campground and is looking to expand from east to west.
“We propose 62 new sites along with a new recreation area, including a new pool,” Jelley said on a tour of the campground on May 7. “The bones of this campground are 50 years old and that includes our pool.”
Jelley said the group has upgraded the campground significantly with new electrical, water and internet systems. New sites have also been added, but he said the next phase needs a recreation area on land Greenfield owned prior to buying the campground in 2023.
