A rendering of what the proposed RV resort might look like and where it sits in relation to current roads and businesses in the area.

Debate has raged both publicly and privately in Wedowee (Alabama) and beyond over the past few weeks regarding a proposed RV resort that, if allowed to proceed, would be built within the Wedowee city limits, according to The Randolph Leader.

The proposed resort would be located on the empty lot on Old Highway 431 between Benefield Funeral Home and the Crystal Cove neighborhood that sits waterfront on Wedowee Creek.

The property is owned by Woodland mayor Scott Carter, who is the driving force behind the plans for the resort.

Here are some details regarding what would be in the proposed resort if construction is allowed to proceed:

  • It would have 74 lots with electrical and sewer hookups for RV parking.
  • It would have 20 freestanding cabins for visitors who would like to stay at the resort but do not have an RV.
  • Amenities would include a swimming pool, outdoor recreation areas with pickleball and basketball courts, a kids’ playground area, a dog-walking area, an indoor game room and nature trails through the woods near Wedowee Creek.
  • The maximum length of stay for any visitor to the resort would be two weeks. This contrasts with the RV park near the bridge on the opposite side of Old 431, where RV owners have a 12-month lease.
  • There would be no boat ramp at the proposed resort, so watercraft recreation would not be offered.
