A new campground at the John and Nancy Owen Fishing Access Site on the Bitterroot River (Montana) is set to open Friday, June 5, providing additional public recreation opportunities near Stevensville, according to NBC Montana.
According to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the campground includes four basic campsites, picnic tables, fire pits and a restroom facility. All campsites will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The expansion was made possible after the neighboring Fort Owen Ranch donated 6.25 acres to FWP in 2021. The project also included improvements to the fishing access site, including dedicated parking for boat trailers and a new vault toilet.
