A proposed six-month moratorium on any new permanent campgrounds was approved on first reading by the Bristol, Tenn., City Council, according to WJHL.
City officials said the proposed moratorium will give them time to review and possibly change existing regulations.
“The purpose of that is to allow our Planning Commission, City Council and city staff to look at our existing regulations and to amend them or to improve them on issues that affect permanent campgrounds,” Cherith Young, director of community development and planning, said. “So, that could be what zones they’re allowed in, what are the requirements for utilities paving setbacks and some of the other factors that play into zoning regulation.”
