Wildfire smoke blanketed Jackson County (Mich.) campgrounds Thursday (July 16), raising concerns about air quality for campers and staff heading into the weekend, according to WILX.
Noah Said, who has a permanent campsite at Apple Creek Campground, said he was caught off guard when he looked outside Thursday morning.
“Whoa, it’s smokey outside. It’s hazy! I wasn’t expecting it,” Said said.
Apple Creek Campground owner Thomas Brennan said his initial reaction to the smoky conditions was dread, citing the constant outdoor work that still needs to be done.
“Nobody likes being out in it, breathing it. And unfortunately, some of us have to,” Brennan said.
Brennan said he had not seen campsite cancellations for the weekend as of Thursday, but said he expects the air quality to affect people regardless.
