Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) is pleased to congratulate Point South/I-95/Yemassee KOA Holiday, which has been named a 2026 Best of the LowCountry Gold winner in the RV Parks/Campgrounds category, marking the fifth consecutive year the Lowcountry campground has been recognized by the annual community awards, according to a press release.

Point South/I-95/Yemassee KOA Holiday has been recognized every year from 2022 through 2026, earning Gold in 2022, 2023 and 2024, Bronze in 2025 and returning to Gold in 2026.

Best of the LowCountry is a community-voted program presented by The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette that recognizes businesses, organizations and individuals throughout South Carolina’s Lowcountry. In 2025, more than 1,400 businesses, organizations and individuals competed across 198 categories, generating more than 233,000 votes.

The continued recognition reflects an approach to campground hospitality that has evolved over more than four decades: looking beyond the camping industry for ideas about how to make guests feel welcomed and eager to return.

“We’ve always looked beyond the campground industry for ideas about hospitality,” said William Olendorf, owner of the Point South/I-95/Yemassee KOA Holiday. “I’ve asked myself, ‘What do the five-star hotels do that makes a guest feel like they’re somewhere special?’ A campground is obviously a very different experience, but the fundamentals are the same: how you welcome people, the environment you create, the details you pay attention to and whether guests leave wanting to come back.”

That philosophy has helped shape a campground designed to be more than an overnight stop along Interstate 95. Point South/I-95/Yemassee KOA Holiday combines traditional RV and camping accommodations with distinctive features including the Swimming Mermaid Coffee House & Wine Bar, gardens and public art, specialty RV sites, glamping accommodations and a restored Louisville & Nashville Railroad caboose.

The goal is not to replicate the experience of a luxury hotel, but to apply the same attention to hospitality and detail in a way that feels authentic to camping.

“We have never believed that a campground should simply be a place where you park an RV for the night,” Olendorf said. “Our belief has always been to create a memorable place people want to return to, and to keep improving it.”

The 2026 Best of the LowCountry honor is the latest in a series of recognitions for Point South/I-95/Yemassee KOA Holiday. The campground was also named a 2026 KOA Icon and earned a Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for the 12th consecutive year. It was previously named KOA Franchisee of the Year in 2016 and has received multiple honors from LUXlife Magazine, including Campground of the Year 2021 — South Carolina, as well as this year’s Most Welcoming Holiday Park 2026 — South Carolina and Best Deluxe Cabin Rental Accommodation 2026 — South Carolina.

The campground has been owned and operated by Olendorf since 1983. Located in South Carolina’s Lowcountry between Charleston and Savannah, it serves travelers along the I-95 corridor while also providing a destination for guests looking to explore the surrounding region.

“Five consecutive years of recognition tell us that what we are doing continues to resonate,” Olendorf said. “We are grateful to our guests, our community and everyone who has recognized Point South over the years. These honors mean a great deal to our entire team.”

Located at 14 Campground Road (I-95 @ Exit 33) & US 17 in Yemassee, the Point South/I-95/Yemassee KOA Holiday is open year-round.

For more information or to make a reservation, visit the campground’s website or call 843-726-5733. Reservations are also available by going online or using the KOA App.
