The Mecklenburg County (Va.) Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Monday (Sept. 14) night to deny a special exception permit for a two-site RV campground on Greenwood Road near Boydton, rejecting the request after a string of her neighbors spoke against it, according to SOVA Now.
The motion to deny came from Supervisor David Brankley, the board’s representative on the county planning commission. Brankley said he did not disagree with the commission’s earlier decision to approve the development, which he said met the conditions the county zoning ordinance sets forth for such sites. But after hearing from constituents, including those who attended Monday’s board meeting, Brankley said he was obliged to follow the people he represents. The motion passed without opposition.
Carolyn Wilbourne Evans sought the permit for a 10-acre tract adjoining Greenwood Point, the 23-lot subdivision she has developed near Boydton. Homes there are typically valued above $500,000, and unimproved lakefront lots and land tracts generally sell for $100,000 to $220,000. A 1.03-acre parcel recently sold for $188,000.
